Weekend!

Well, It has been a while since Cody and I had a date. I know we don't have children and so many people think we don't need a date night but that is really not true...especially since we live with 5 other people (and a dog, just in case you forgot)! I think it's so important to plan a night that is just for us because we are always with people...family, friends, pastors, youth pastors and/or students. That being said, Friday night after a long week of work on the Lit Conference, we went on a date! The Melting Pot is one of our favorite spots! It's sooo yum! The fiesta cheese is off the chain! Spicy! After dinner we went to the movies and you will never guess who we ran into...my family! Yes, we ended up in the same movie with my family! We saw "Mad Money" and it was cute and entertaining.

Saturday we really should have been house hunting but we just didn't feel like it so we chilled at home! Then we prepared for the social event of the year. I can't even believe we received an invitation! The BIG event was Princess Addie Hixson's 4th Birthday party! It was so cute and as usual, Cody and I felt really out of place as the couple with no children. When we walked in the door and the kids started screaming with joy Cody immediately said "Well, see ya later"! However, we did stay for most of the festivities (which explains the picture with the tiara and crown)! Happy Birthday Addie (I'm sure your Mom will pass this message to you)!!!

Sunday was great! The series, titled Choreography, has really spoken to me. It is one of my favorites so far and God has used it to speak to me about adding to my faith! I would really recommend everyone listening to it sometime. You can download it on I-tunes by searching Vinings Lake or Pete Hixson! After a great morning we had lunch with friends and then rushed home to change and go to our small group. This week our small group went to MUST Ministries to cook and serve dinner to some great people going through hard times! We made spaghetti (with more noodles than anyone could imagine..seriously...a mountain of noodles), salad, french bread, cookies and carrot cake...thanks to Publix. We all had a blast cooking with our huge plastic gloves! Cody and I loved meeting the people and helping out! It's great to be a part of a church that reaches out to people! After all, that is what "being the church" is all about!!!! I hope they enjoyed our spaghetti! At least it looked edible!

Hope you all had a fun weekend! Enjoy your week!

Missing the snow!! Can't believe it!!

It never snows in Hotlanta! Never! Seriously, can you believe it snowed twice in one week (and stuck to the ground) in Georgia! The really horrible part of the whole thing is that I missed it. Yes, that's right, I missed it. Cody and I are in Myrtle Beach, SC and it's in the mid 40's and rainy! I drove to NC today to see my family and it began to pour the snow as I was leaving. I am so disappointed!

Despite my disappointment I've had a really great day. I got up early and drove to NC to see my family. I had breakfast with my awesome Grandparents. My Grandmother is the most well "put together" person you could meet. Her handbag, shoes and nail polish always match whatever outfit she chooses to style in for the day! Really, the woman never has chipped polish! I know it is unbelievable. My Grandfather is her perfect match. He is the most friendly person I've ever met, he never meets a stranger and everyone loves him! To top it off, his snow white locks are always placed perfectly (and in his opinion it would be an absolute disaster if he wasn't matching and ironed)! I really love to see them! I also went to a baby shower for my "aunt" JD and soon to be baby girl "ya-ya", Sydney. I really love to go "home" and see everyone but I must admit, today was the first time in a while I was very sad to leave!
We are having a great weekend with a bunch of students for the "Winter Rush" conference in Myrtle Beach. Cody did a great job speaking tonight (as always). He shared a new talk titled "Jesus, the drunkard and the glutton". My husband likes to make you think and get you to search the scriptures for yourself. So, for those of you wondering, Jesus was not a drunkard or glutton but he was categorized as one because He associated with those who were! In other words, He hung out with people society disapproved of and people different from Him. Our separation as Christians should be inward. I was so challenged to reach out and meet people different from me, regardless of what my onlookers might say or think!
Hope all my friends and family in GA had fun in the snow today! I love you guys!

7th Heaven?

I know it has been a while since my last blog but I have an excuse...really! We moved, AGAIN! Cody and I are living with my parents, brother and my 2 cousins! 7 peeps and a dog! No, I am not kidding! I'm not really sure if it is 7th Heaven or the "other" place. It's really not as bad as it sounds because we actually get along...all of us! One of the down sides to the whole experience is the fact that we have no cable or internet so we really feel like the "Walton's". I know many of you have no idea who the "Walton's" are and there are some of you that are surprised I know what it is! Hopefully we will get back into 2008 by the time the week is over and I will be able to blog and watch "Oprah" and "The Real Housewives of Orange County"!!! I can't wait! Someone should really consider making a reality TV show about our journey because I know it would be a hit! Everyone would be addicted to our craziness! Every night I feel like my evening should end with a crescendo of orchestral music and a sum up of all the days events...just like 7th Heaven!!

Happy 2008!

Since our wonderful Christmas, Cody and I have done nothing! We slept late and watched some really great movies (including "The Last King of Scotland" which I highly recommend). It was great to spend some time relaxing! After our Sunday service we drove to TN to celebrate Christmas with Cody's family. We always look forward to spending time with our niece, Avery, who is 5 and knows how to steal Cody's heart! We spent the night hanging out with his family and our dear friend, Joe. New Year's Eve we headed to Gatlinburg for Xtreme! I guess you could say this has become our New Year's tradition. We have been "sneaking" into the concerts there for the past few years and hanging out with our friends. We all listened to Chris Tomlin's concert that was really great (especially considering the fact that he was really sick)! Then NewSong brought in the New Year followed by a celebration with music and dancing! I was pulled on stage to dance with Hollie and a few others brave enough to do the "Cha Cha Slide" in front of everyone! The best part of the night was when the stage was filled with students doing the Soulja Boy!!! I seriously thought the stage would cave in! We had a yummy lunch with great friends on our way out of town today, the first day of the year! The weekend was great and there was no better way to start the year than with some of our dearest friends! Now we are home...unpacking, blogging and getting ready to join the real world again! Hope you all have an amazing 2008!
